Name that baby!

Mike and I are having a very hard time coming up with a name for our baby girl that is due in January. I suggested having a blog contest to him. He was all game.

Here is the deal: The contest is open till December 14, two weeks. Please put your name suggestions in the comment section of this post only. Up for grabs is one hank of Socks that Rock sock yarn. For every name that you suggest you will be entered once. For example you suggest two names, you get entered twice. Doesn't matter if we like the name you suggest or not, you will still be entered. The point of this contest is just to help us find some names! Our other kids names are (from oldest to youngest) Corra, Bryce and Allysa. Somehow we've developed a pattern of C, B, A. (A,B,C get it?)  I would love to name our girl a D or Z starting name, keeping with the pattern ya know. But any name is ok.

I hope this make sense, my brain is all over the place! But if you have any questions please email me mistress_stash_enhancer (at) yahoo (dot) com (remove the  obvious)

Good luck and thanks. : )

Updated 12/15: Contest is closed!! Thank you so much for everyone who gave their suggestions. You rock!! : )  If you missed the contest, or have another suggestion drop me a email. Thanks again everyone!! I'll be picking a winner this weekend

I've always loved the name Eva Claire. Or Noel Claire. I'm just a big fan of the name Claire. But not as a first name. Chloe is a first name I like, but can't come up with a middle name. Zoe? Zeta? Zanzibar? Do any of these work? LOL This is the working mind of a single girl with no plans for children. Sorry.

I've always liked the name Julia, and also Julianna. If you are looking for a D name, may I suggest Dana? It's the name of one of my very favorite friends!

Posted by: Jenn | 12/01/2006

oooh, how fun. Me, I'm going with Zipporah - Mose's wife. Cool name, IMHO.

Posted by: lynda | 12/01/2006

OK, here are the names that I loved but my husband rejected for Beatrix:

Zora
Aurelia
Eugenia
Tallulah
Eulalie
Desdemona
Esmerelda (Esme)

OK, so I have more unusual taste in names!!! Good luck and I hope you settle on something before the birth. Beatrix didn't get named until she was 3 days old and that was pretty stressful. :-)

Oh fun!

I like Nina, who was my aunt,
Adela, who was my great aunt,
and also,
June & Zoe, and Diana is pretty too!

I cheated and looked a little online. Here are a couple I like.

Zaida (or Zayda) meaning Lucky
Zaneta (or Zanita) meaning God's Gift

Desiree (or Desarae) or meaning The One Desired
Destiny meaning Good Fortune

Holy Cow, there are a lot of names out there - from boring to downright outrageous!

Posted by: Julie | 12/01/2006

Adelaide (not a D or Z, but I looooove this name)
Devany (I knew a little girl with this name-- very sweet)
Delaney (another baby I know!)
Odessa (again, D as second sound)
Zoe
Zahra

I lovelovelove thinking of baby names-- if I think of more, I'll let you know!

D names - Dana, Dianne, Delilah, and Z names - Zoe. My daughter is named Isabelle Rose, but I really like Charlotte, Chloe, Mia, Grace, and Kate. Our neighbours daughters are named Makenzie and Rory if that is any help at all.

Posted by: Sue | 12/02/2006

Of course Denise is a great name but that's not what I wanted to suggest.

Aulia
Belve
Maude

Are the names that were runner up when I had my daughter.

Posted by: Denise | 12/02/2006

Hi, I just found your blog and I'm very excited because:
1. You knit
2. You are pregnant

I'm due in May :)

Anyway, names for girls that DH and I like so far are:

Thea
Terese
Rose
Charlotte (nickname charlie)
Elsa
Eva
Ava
Evelyn (Evie)
Eloise
Fiona

My niece is also named Madelein which I think is lovely :)

Good luck picking a name! We're finding out if its a girl or boy on the 18th, I know the whole name picking thing is going to be tough, though we're both leaning towards Thea Rose

Oooh, I love your sweater. Oooh, I love your sweet baby belly, I want one. K, Gonna have to put some thought into the names...I'll be back later. Hope you are all doing well out there. Any snow yet? We haven't had a single flake. I'm moving to Chicago, or Alaska, or Maine, or Canada anywhere but South-Central PA!

Posted by: Tracey | 12/02/2006

Now if you want to stick with the c b a ...then, how about Zara. Wheee! A baby naming contest! What fun. OK, for the z's I'm going to say Zelda, because I don't think anyone's said it yet and she was F. Scott Fitzgerald's wife. Or there's also Zoila.

Now for the D's, I'm going to throw out some Spanish names, just to mix it up:

Dolores
Dora
Delfina
Daniela
Dayanara
Dalia
Dulce

Good luck deciding!

Gabrielle, Gwendolyn, Baily

Good luck!

Saw another "Z" name on television last evening ... Zorianna.

So glad to hear your father is doing much better ... take care of your mum too, it can be rough being the caretaker.

Posted by: Deb | 12/05/2006

My choice: Dinah.
A bit old fashioned, but cute.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I'm a bit behind on my blog reading..............He will be in my prayers. Grumpy is a good sign, I think!

I had a really hard time picking out girl names for my daughter. I didn't have one that felt "right" until the last minute... it seems much harder with girls to me.

I almost named my daughter Deirdre/Deirdra- or Daphne. (Or Phoebe. She ended up Bridget Muriel... and I sometimes wish now I'd spelled it Brigid.)

Zofia (variant of Sophia, which means "wisdom") This is my favorite "Z" name. It is one of my favorite girl names...

Zena (variant spelling of Greek Xenia, which means "hospitable")
Zandra (nickname for Alexandra, which is "defender of mankind")
Zhanna (variant of Jeanne, which is "God is gracious... or grace...")
Zabel (Armenian variant of Isabel)
Zhenia (variant of Eugenia...)
Zosia, Zoja, Zoia, Zoya- all variants of Zoe, which is so pretty.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday season.

Happy St. Nicholas day!

My friend's daughter is named Devon, and another friend of mine has a daughter named Sage Lilah. I really liked those names but if I had a girl, I planned to name her McKenna. My husband vetoed that one so my next choice was California...but we had a boy :)

Posted by: Juls | 12/10/2006

Wow. I think you may have every name in the book up there. I'll just suggest my personal favorites: Megen (pronounced meg-en), Eliot (yes, for a girl), and Emily. Have fun!
