2006 year of the sock

2006 certainly was the year of the sock for me. Check it out

12 complete pairs knit, and 2 for the SSS swap (which btw Adelle is taking sign ups for the second round till Jan. 3!) Unless I'm missing a pair or 2, which it feels like I am, I knit a sock a month this year. Not bad. I learned how to knit socks last November and was off like a bat.
This coming year I have one resolution, one I know I'll be able to keep, This year I promise to have more fun. I think I'll be able to handle that ; )
Here's wishing you and yours a safe and happy New Year.

Nesting?

You would think that with 3 weeks left till my due date I would be nesting like a crazed pregnant woman

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

(Like my new outfit? I picked it up while out "grocery shopping" at Old Navy.Mike had the kids, I was out by myself *snicker* what more can I say? hehee)

I have been very tired lately. Probably because I haven't been sleeping very well at night, its hard to get comfortable right now! I have started a baby sweater, finally.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

(interesting, picture no?)

I started the ballerina cardigan from Sidar's Early Arrivals No.2 on Wednesday. I am using beehive baby yarn,  size US 2 for the ribbing and US 3's for the rest. I think this yarn is older than me! I'm on the left front right now, its moving along but boy do I wish I picked a sweater with thicker yarn!

Now back to the subject of nesting, while I don't think I've been nesting. Although I'm starting to get to the point where I"m sick of being pregnant and am uncomfortable all the time. I sent Mike to Lowe's last night to get a few things (mailbox, bracket to secure a dresser to the wall, and a new toilet seat) I get a phone call from him while he is in the bathroom section. "Hon, what do you think of redoing the downstairs bathroom? I'm looking at showers right now." say it with me people "oh.no" While I may not be nesting to the extreme, I think Mike might be! *L*

This I have to add, because Dad you would be so proud.

Mike just took his new remote control truck out of the box. (The truck that I've been forgetting to give to him for 2 years now... I hid it *really* well) while he was fidgeting with it, Allysa crawled into the box! She is such a ham.

A lovely Holiday

Its hard for me to believe that Christmas is over, and that there are only 2 days left of 2006. (2 days!?! Crazy) We had a lovely Christmas, it was one of those days you wish was a little longer and you didn't want to end. I hope you all had as good of a Holiday as we did.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The kids had a ball with their gifts, and Mike enjoyed guessing what was in every package. (and was almost *always* right! He is too good!) poor guy, got all the fun "adult gifts" clothes and stuff for his trailer.

One reason to have kids, you get to buy really cool toys, play with them, and not be considered crazy.

The kids enjoyed playing for most of the day, We went over to Mike's Mom's than over to his Aunt's. It was a great day, with family, friends and lots of good food.

me? I got the bestest present ever. This year, I told Mike how I remember baking cookies with my mom with her Sunbeam stand mixer. (Which I have now, but when you use it it seems to want to take off into orbit or burst into flames!) I told him I would love a Kitchen Aid Mixer, like they have at the kitchen store at the mall. I also told him I would never bake him cookies from a bag mix again. Can you guess what I got?

It's pink, its perfect, and I'm so happy. I don't' know what to bake first I'm so excited! Did I mention its pink? Thank you Mike, there will be lots more cookies this year!!

ps I've been knitting, I think bloglines resets after it reaches so many posts. Because today when I opened it it said I had 32 unread posts.... uhhh I haven't read any blogs in a week! It was 100 and something last time I checked!

somebody was good to me...

somebody was good to me today while I was out at my Dr's appointment, running errands and then at the kids school parties today I think every delivery company dropped a box off at my door.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

click to embiggen (its really hard not to laugh at your photographer, when she is wearing your shoes and trying not to fall over while taking the picture! btw baby is 5lbs 9oz according to the Dr today!)

I was greeted by 9 packages at my front door. 9! 2 are Christmas presents from family, 1 is Mike's something (I wasn't listening when he told me, computer something. hehe), 4 are Christmas gifts I ordered online (love the internets!), a fed-ex envelope for Mike, and the last one?

Quite possibly the best package ever. Why? Well, first it was from this lovely lady I "met" through the august birthday swap, Diane . We are exchanging Christmas presents this year. And I'm well... at bit behind.... anyway...

Diane, I don't even know how to even begin. I waited till I put the kids to bed to open my package. Selfish me wanted to saver this for myself.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

and I'm glad that I did

(click for a blurry, yet better representation of this lovely color way)

a hank of the Silkwood hand painted boucle, this yarn is so soft and smells *so* good! And a set of blue sky alpaca US1 dpns to help knit through the stash ; )

Diane, I don't know if it was my hormones or just your generosity but when I opened the last package, I turned to mush.

Diane knit me socks. She knit ME socks! Me! Socks! She even knit socks with a heel flap, cause that's how I love my socks!!!  They fit perfectly, I don't think I've even knit socks for myself that fit this well. The color that she picked (Hand dyed Opal by Angel Yarns) are also perfect. My colors completely! Diane, I would hop on a plane just so I could come and hug you. But I'm not allowed to fly right now! Thank you, I don't even know how to say thank you. Too me, hand knit socks is the bestest knitting gifts. I turned into a big mush when I opened this up. Thank you Diane. Thank you. For everything, the lovely boucle, the amazing set of needles, the yummy chocolates and these warm cozy socks.

I hope I wasn't supposed to share the chocolates with anyone except the baby... cause they are gone! mmmm good!

PS the little bugger tagged me with the 5 wierd things meme. I'm not sure if these are the wierdest things I do, but these where the first ones to come to mind

1. I *hate* messy yarn balls. Really, really hate them. I will wind and rewind yarn 10 times if that's what it takes to get a neat ball.
2. I have to take my own pillow with me when I go to a hotel, too my parents or on vacation. It's a "germ" thing it's just that I looooove my pillow! Its nice and squishy, either I stole it *ahem* from my mom or she gave it to me, I can't remeber. Love this pillow. Love.it. I even asked my Dad to mail it to me the one time I forgot it at his house. He did, and he rocks! : )
3. I hate dirty floors. It really bother's me. But on the other hand, I can deal with dust on the knick knacks and cobwebs. Figure that one out. Also can't leave the house dirty for vacation. (this way I can veg out for a few days when we get home!)
4. I am the one who kills all the bugs in this house. I don't know why the big bad marine (mike) won't smush a spider. He did once admit to me that he is afraid is going to bite him, that's why you have to be quick!
5. all the can's in my pantry have to have the labels facing outward, so they can be read easily and quickly. The spices on the spice shelf they go anywhere, any which way. There is no order here.
hmmm.... who to tag? who to tag? How about my Mom, friend Amanda (she hasn't updated her blog in a while. hehe) and anyone else who wants to do it!
ya, almost forgot this part..
THE RULES:
Start with your ‘5 weird things about you.’

People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 5 weird things as well as state this rule clearly.
Then, choose 5 people to be tagged and list their names.
Don’t forget to leave a comment that says ‘you are tagged’ in their comments and tell them to read your blog!

Announcement

Announcement : no, no baby yet. There's at least 4 weeks left to go. If she shows up before than. I will be *very* damn surprised. (Here that fate? I'm taunting you. Prove me wrong!) But I did pick a winner from the baby name contest... We had 52 comments, 5 that didn't want in the contest (Would someone pleeease get my Dad a dog?! Can you tell he is feeling better?) for a total of 218 names. The famous random number generator (sorry I'm feeling a bit lazy) picked name #58 Zoe which was suggested from Tracey of Fuzzy Britches!!! Funny how it was that name the generator picked, Mike's been suggesting that name from the get go! Our thanks to everyone, even smart ass Dad. (Mom, get him a dog already!) We *still* haven't settled on a name... yes still...  by the way, you people are great. Thank you all your sweet comments. Thank you! You rock. Really! One of the hardest things about pregnancy is dealing with the massive change of your own body, and the hormones. Lovely things those are... Thank you, I wish I could hug ya'll!

This past week I've been a *very* busy little crafter. My local LYS asked me to make her 6 scissor fobs, I made her 8 plus one for me. ; ) and a few stitch markers see?

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Allysa helped... and made her own...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

A few years ago, I started making calendars to give/mail to family members and friends each with a different picture on each month. Got them done. All 22 of them. Kids are good at sorting.. hehe. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Finished 45 hand-stamped Christmas cards too. I'm really proud of this years, I used a 4x6 print and attached it to the front of the card with two Christmas theme photo corners so its removable. Corra and I embossed and colored in the star Santa's that you see in the corner of the photo.

I have to share this photo of Corra with you, she decorated this cookie at school and  is was very proud of him, she devoured the poor thing after this picture!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

We've also been baking, I love to bake. Really *love* to bake. Its nice to mix a few things together, throw it in the oven and walk away for 15 minutes. ya know? Allysa and I made Keena's pretzel chocolate melts today

Holy.freaking.good!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Thank you Keena for sharing your recipe with us, these where quick easy, and really freaking good. Did I mention they're good. Cause they are *really* freaking good. : )

I've also been knitting, yes, I've been knitting! I finished my first toe up sock. And I bet you would LOVE to see a picture, well.. I can't quite see my feet!! *L* This little blah moment has left me enjoying the process of knitting. Feeling the yarn move through my hand and the needles making each stitch. I've been knitting on my red scarf, and its like a toddler. It's eating the yarn, but not growing! urgh!

btw If I owe you an email, I'm sorry. there's 118 sitting in my in box waiting for me. Bloglines? I'm a bit afraid to open that monster up...

blah.....

Would you believe me if I told you that I haven't really been knitting since I last posted, ummm a week ago? I know its hard to believe. Lately I've been feeling, well. blah. Yeah, blah. Not really interested in knitting, or blogging, or reading blogs. What is wrong with me? I think "nesting" has started to set in. Because I've been cleaning. Holy crap have I been cleaning. (I've also been Christmas shopping, almost done. Few more things for Mike and the stocking stuffers. And I'm done. My mail man is going to h.a.t.e. me these next two weeks! Ok, there is also the things to finish crafting... anyway) I have *finally* found the guest bed, my bedroom is clean, and I've cleaned off my craft table. *gasps*

I think my lack of knitting excitement might have something to due with what is currently on my needles

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Irish hiking scarf in red worsted weight wool. heh. boring.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

first toe up socks, heh. Not interested anymore.

Seriously people what is wrong with me? Why am I not excited about knitting my first toe up socks? Learning the Norwegian purl, figuring out continental knitting (I'm an English knitter) Is it because these socks have been on the needles so long I've lost interested? Or because the colorway isn't doing anything for me anymore? eh. There isn't anything I *really* want  to cast on either. Even better one of my neighbors said to me today:

"My, your getting big."

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

No.shit. Could you pllllleeeasse tell me something I don't know? 35 weeks, I should freaking hope I look pregnant. *gr*

ps. I haven't checked my email in a while, I'm very, very scared. ; )  oh, yeah two days left in the contest! Mike and I are enjoying reading all your suggestions, thank you!!

My little man turns 6!

Today my little man, Bryce turns 6!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

He is a fabulous builder, you should see his train track! Its amazing how well he can put it together. And his lego creations? wow. He is also a very creative artist. I love watching him draw!

He amazes me every day with the funny things he says. When my friend MandaJ asked him last week if he was getting taller he responded with "no, I'm shrinking!"
Bryce I hope you have a fantastic Birthday, could you do Mommy one little favor? Quit growing up so fast!

knit unto others

Home... I'm finally home!! Ok, last night I got home , put the kids to bed and promptly fell there myself. I ended up staying an extra day too drive Dad home. He is doing much better now than he was Friday afternoon, or even Saturday morning. Mom has been witting about his recovery on her blog, here. The Dr. was able to remove all the cancer, Dad is uncomfortable and grumpy. Mom has a looooong week ahead of her! Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers for my Dad. I can't tell you how much it means to me! Mike also came home for a bit to get his extra set of trailer keys. Why? Because he broke the other set off in the door of the trailer. yup.

Since I wasn't home on Saturday and I couldn't get the wireless at the hotel to work. I wasn't able to post my finished mittens!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I finished the red ones Friday morning while I was waiting for Mom at the hotel. Started the yellow ones the same morning while waiting at the hospital and finished the pair Sunday morning at my parents house. Here's the stats:

Pattern: this pattern from Sandy's Needle Nook (pdf)

yarn: acrylic that I have inherited from mom

needles: size 4 bamboo dpns

gauge: 5sts/inch

size: yellow and multi color- medium child

        red and green- small child

notes: Super quick knit! 2 days for each mitten. One the second yellow I ran out of muli colored for the cuff, and had to get a bit creative. You can see it better in the next picture. I also picked up more stitches around where I started the thumb so there where no holes, I decreased them down on the first row.

I really surprised myself during these past two weeks, I really didn't think I would be able to knit this much

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

6 hats, 3 pairs of mittens, and a blanket square. I'm so surprised I was able to accomplish this much! Now I just have to tag them, and mail them off. Damn, I have to say I am *very* proud of myself. ; ) Sometime tonight, I'm going to cast on an Irish Hiking scarf for the red scarf project (or else it will never get done). Then baby knitting, maybe some Christmas knitting.

PS Don't forget about the name that baby contest, open till December 14

Name that baby!

Mike and I are having a very hard time coming up with a name for our baby girl that is due in January. I suggested having a blog contest to him. He was all game.

Here is the deal: The contest is open till December 14, two weeks. Please put your name suggestions in the comment section of this post only. Up for grabs is one hank of Socks that Rock sock yarn. For every name that you suggest you will be entered once. For example you suggest two names, you get entered twice. Doesn't matter if we like the name you suggest or not, you will still be entered. The point of this contest is just to help us find some names! Our other kids names are (from oldest to youngest) Corra, Bryce and Allysa. Somehow we've developed a pattern of C, B, A. (A,B,C get it?)  I would love to name our girl a D or Z starting name, keeping with the pattern ya know. But any name is ok.

I hope this make sense, my brain is all over the place! But if you have any questions please email me mistress_stash_enhancer (at) yahoo (dot) com (remove the  obvious)

Good luck and thanks. : )

Updated 12/15: Contest is closed!! Thank you so much for everyone who gave their suggestions. You rock!! : )  If you missed the contest, or have another suggestion drop me a email. Thanks again everyone!! I'll be picking a winner this weekend
